FOOTY FOR THE CULTURE
BackYardFooty started as a podcast in 2018 by professional soccer player, Hugh Roberts. As Roberts career progressed over the years, he began to see an opportunity to use his platform to better the communities he lived and played in. BYF is so much more than a podcast now, acting as a vehicle for change within the community led by athlete activist, Hugh Roberts.
BYF Podcasts
BackYardFooty, Founded in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, originated as a podcast in 2018 while playing for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, sharing stories of professional athletes across the USL Championship every home match. From there, the show travels to Germany, interviewing a former US men’s national team member, to settling in a new city, Charlotte, North Carolina.
During three years in Charlotte, Byf interviewed new and experienced professionals on the Charlotte Independence from across the world and partnered with Midwood Collective, a media company based in Charlotte, to bring new behind-the-scenes experiences of professional life in the United Soccer League (USL). From practices, away trips, and new Gameday on-the-field visuals, Byf expanded into an entertainment company, bringing you unique insight from multiple perspectives.
Moving across the country to Monterey Bay Football Club this year, Byf brought a brand new perspective from the other side of the coast. Later in the season, we were able to partner with Reyes Films, a local videographer, to bring new a new series called "Footyvisualz" and a new Docu-series giving you a unique HD look into Game nights and players’ journies Cardinale stadium throughout the season.
